Hit the Hitman at HCSFF; New Short on the Way

E Major, DW Mattingly and Doug Mattingly at the Hollywood Comedy Short Film Festival

It’s been a busy few weeks! It seems like filmmaknig is taking up more of my time nowadays than music but I’ve been loving it. Our film “Hit the Hitman” was selected to be a part of the Hollywood Comedy Short Film Festival so we went to attend the screening a few weeks back. It was really dope to see the film with strangers and to see it on the big screen at the famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

After that we rolled right into shooting our second short film which was written by my father (pictured center) and we’ve been shooting that the past two weekends. It’s coming together really nicely and I can’t wait to get the editing process and start putting the pieces together. I’m learning so much each time we get out and shoot and it’s just been a really great experience to do that with my family.

What I’ve Been Up To

I have been really bad about posting recently but trust I have been working my ass off! I’m just going to run down the latest and greatest so we’re all up to speed and hopefully I’ll get back on my posting grind again soon.

First lets deal with what has already happened. I recently was invited by my good friends back in Baltimore to once again be part of the Bmore Dilla event. This was the 10 year anniversary performance and the final one. I mean, 10 years is a good run, right? So you know I had to make my way back home to be part of something so special. And the whole event and weekend did not disappoint. I did Elzhi‘s “Come And Get It” from Welcome 2 Detroit which is a hell of track to try to pull off, but with the assistance of the ever talented J Soul (seen below) we did the damn thing. The rest of the artists crushed it as expected and Pete Rock ended the night in classic fashion.

New Video: E Major – “Answers”

Inglewood resident and Baltimore native, E Major returns with a dope self-directed music video for “Answers,” the latest from his EP/mixtape Konduct da Invazion which features E Major rhyming over Madlib instrumentals. “Answers” utilizes the instrumental from Lootpack’s classic with teh same name and builds on it with cuts by another Maryland resident DJ Mad One who is also featured in the video.

The video plays with some of the lyrics E Major spits and finds he and Mad One trying to collect a ransom for a state senator as E Major makes calls and a ransom note, and Mad One drives the aforementioned senator to a destinations unknown.

New Album: E Major – Konduct da Invazion

Baltimore raised, Inglewood based emcee, E Major returns with a dusty fingered release entitled “Konduct da Invazion.” His latest effort finds him rapping over instrumentals from Stonesthrow beatsmith, the legendary Madlib. While this isn’t an official collaboration, E Major hand picked a 6 tracks from the Beat Konducta’s eclectic catalogue that create a cohesive soundscape. Adding sound bites from movies and interviews as well as cuts from DJ Mad One, make this an EP that feels more like an official project than a mixtape.

New Music: E Major – New Day

New track from my forthcoming EP length mixtape where I’m going in over Madlib beats. The 2nd from said project. Expect the whole thing to drop around the end of spring/beginning of summer. I start out writing these things with the intent of simply doing some wordplay and shit talking and while I do plenty of that, so far these “freestyles” have been peppered with an unintended self reflection. I keep taking stock of my personal relationship with Hip Hop. It’s kind of interesting. But it’s like I say in this particular track “I guess I use it just to ask questions/ to take out my aggression and to bask in my obsessions.”
