Dave and Posdnuos of De La Soul performing at the annual DC Loves Dilla event.

A packed house at the Howard Theatre witnessed a great tribute to the legendary J Dilla. The 8th annual DC Loves Dilla included performances by some of DC finest backed by Jon Laine and The Players. De La Soul closed out the event by performing their Dilla produced classics. All acts paid homage to James Yancey well which I’m sure pleased Ma Dukes Yancey watching from the balcony. The DC Loves Dilla tribute is an event to look forward to every year.

New Music: Substantial feat. yU – Movin’ Alright

If you check this blog then you’re probably plugged in enough that you know who Substantial is. You might even remember him from a track I did with him. For “Movin’ Alright” from his latest release Home is Where the Art is,  he links up with DC wordsmith and Diamond District member yU. Produced by Oddisee, this track has a stuttering beat that the 2 MC’s match with the cool deliveries their both known for. Peep it and let me know what you think.

You can get Home is Where the Art is on iTunes now.

New Music: Substantial – “Check My Resume”

If you’re on this site you probably heard of Substantial. If you don’t know him from the work he’s put in for years then you know the Baltimore resident from the track I did with him that was on The Major Major Mixtape. For this single Stan links up with none other then Oddisee who has been on a hell of a tear recently with his album People Hear What They See being one of my favorites of 2012 so far. The result is a head-nodder that has Substantial getting right in teh pocket and dropping lines like “Baltimore resident, but people know I’m from the… County where the Prince is a G.” If this track were all Substantial had to present as his resume, I guarantee he’s getting the job.
Peep it below and let me know what you think. Home Is Where The Art Is drops September 4th on Mello Music Group.
