New Music: Rhymes By Kane: Thievery Corp Edition

The homie Kane Mayfield dropped his latest full length effort. It’s been a while since he had a full solo album but in the time since Bladerunner EP he’s built up his rep by dropping consistent singles, many of which we’ve posted here. With his latest Rhymes By Kane: Thievery Corporation Edition, he furthers what he’s started and continues to defy expectations.

As the title eludes, this is chock full of rhymes that are indeed by Kane with beats molded from tracks made by DC’s Thievery Corporation. The result is something that’s really difficult, an amalgamation of smooth dance tracks and straight-no-chaser Hip Hop that actually sounds good! I think you’ll agree. New Music: Kane Mayfield – Champagne & Gyros (feat. Mista FAB and Greenspan)

Another joint from Kane Mayfield with assistance from B’more’s own Greenspan and the Bay Area’s Mista FAB. The beat for this one, provided by Mania’s in house production duo of Bealack and Headphones, has a smooth horn for the hook that gives the whole thing a real Camp Lo. All three MC’s smooth it out too. My favorite thing that Kane is doing with is releases is showing his versatility. Although this has a classic 90’s feel, it doesn’t sound outdated. Check it out below and leave a comment. You can download this track now from Mania’s Bandcamp page.

Another New Kane Mayfield Track! “Hydrants”

With no confirmed release date, Rhymes By Kane is slowly getting released through several (4 now?) solid tracks. What I like about the approach with each of these releases is that each one is giving you a different side of Kane. This one delves deeper into the introspective Kane who ponders black youth’s ongoing struggles over a smoothed out track. The whole idea of hydrants washing away the pain is a nice, poetic visual. Definitely looking forward to Rhymes By Kane. Peep “Hydrants” below and let me know what you think!
