New Music: Logic Marselis – MGNTK.2

a2365865891_10

New beat tape/mixtape from producer Logic Marselis called MGNTK.2. Logic, whom readers of this probably know from his work with UllNevaNo,  has a great sound that’s part traditional boom bap, part new school Dilla disciple, if that makes any sense. He goes smooth a lot of times but can make joints that knock too. This particular project was recorded on tape so it has a lo-fi quality. Before I listened I wasn’t sure if that would help or hurt the project but it actually has a very subtle effect that kind of muffles the samples some times but it gives it warmth that if you didn’t know it was on tape you’d probably feel. It definitely feels good. The joint called “california” has such a great almost transcendent vibe. The surprise for me though was him rhyming along with UllNevaNo on “Blk Business.” I really like his voice and his flow is pretty effortless. Check it out below but also support by going to Bandcamp and doing the “name your price” thing.

New Music: Rome Cee feat. IllConscious – “Life’s a Bitch 2014”

rome-ill

New single from Rome Cee with fellow Baltimore artist IllConscious called “Life’s A Bitch 2014”. This joint is MEAN. Both MC’s naturally have styles that call back to the era of Illmatic so it just feels right that during the 10th anniversary of Nas’ classic 1st album, they pay homage with this track. Homage aside the joint is dope on it’s own, which is what’s really important.

New Music: August Gordon – Beast Coast

BeastCoast6-BW

New music from August Gordon!!! He’s definitely one of the illest beatmakers I know and probably one of the illest out, period.

Here’s what August has to say about the project.

This project came about when I stumbled upon an old hard drive at a friends containing a bunch of great instrumentals that I had forgotten about from the late 90s into the early 2000s. I originally intended to just release a “Lost Tapes” beat tape of sorts but when I started going through them I realized that a lot of the beats had a real distinct east coast golden era flavor. I picked the best of those gems and added a bunch of stuff from recent years that didn’t get placed or Id forgotten, made some new beats, did some edits, interludes etc and viola, Beast Coast was born. Growing up in Baltimore and spending a lot of my childhood in NY, this serves as my homage to the northeast, a place that brought me my first true love in music, hip hop. This is a good joint to blast in the whip, play some dice to late night or just pump out some big ol speakers at a house party.Watch the levels cus I kept it unmastered and raw, the way u used to get tapes from your friends back in the day.Hopefully this will help u get caught back up in the nostalgia of a sound that keeps reinventing itself!! As always free download (donations accepted).I just ask if you enjoy the music spread it around. Peace and Love and have a safe, fun and productive summer )
