VISIT DJBOOTH.NET TO DOWNLOAD NOW.

It’s a day of EP’s!  Today our homie King Mez, who I’m sure you all remember from our work together here and here.  Well, as you can see, Mez is making the right moves and has linked up with Khrysis for a whole EP of dopeness.  As I’m writing this I’m listening and it’s exactly what you’d expect stupid, dope, retarded beats with Mez going HAM SANDWICH over each track.  Now stop reading this shit and go download King’s Khryisis.

Kane Mayfield at Mobtown Studios

KaneMayfield

“Round of applause for my lust!” -Kane Mayfield at Mobtown Studios

Last week I went to one of Mobtown Studios‘ “microshows” for my homie Kane Mayfield.  It’s a great idea really.  Kane invited some press and close friends and recorded the whole thing with a live band.  The result of which will be a live album of songs that we’ve heard and ones that have never been released.  Kane really used the small, intimate space to have fun and let his comedian side shine, speaking directly to some audience members by name and calling on everyone to partake in some of the free drinks they provided.  Kane is one of the biggest personalities I know and the small room we were in could barely contain him.  He moved around as much as he could, sneering and smiling to accentuate his lyrics in an almost musical play-like performance.  It was a really relaxed atmosphere which allowed for a lot of interplay between Kane and the folks that came to watch.  I’m really interested to see how it translates to the live album.

Kane is a Mania Music Group artist and with their open minded approach, artists like Kane and Rapman Ron G,  and fun gigs like this it’s easy to see why they were named the best label in Baltimore in 2009.

New Music: Rickie Jacobs – Look At Me (Freestyle)

Rickie Jacobs is one of the up and coming artists from B’more to watch.  He has a pretty versatile flow, funny punch lines and a boat load of charisma.  I’m not sure if this is an original beat or if it’s from another song (I can be out of touch sometimes so forgive me if I should know this beat), but it’s got a kind of cool, minimal spaciness to it that lets Rickie get busy.  Definitely a fun listen.  Shoutout to Rickie for the 50 Tyson line. Hilarious!

Kil – “Through the Wire” Instrumental Album

Die hard Baltimore Hip Hop heads know the name Kil.  He was a host on Morgan State’s long running Hip Hop show, Strictly Hip Hop while he was attending Morgan in the late 90′s.  Now before you jump on this saying that everyone and their mother from Baltimore has exploited The Wire to the point of cliché, I think you should listen to this first.  This is an instrumental, concept album laced with clips from the show as well as samples from street Hip Hop artists that are thoughtfully placed throughout to relate the instrumental it’s on.  This doesn’t feel like every other Wire rip off out there.  It’s a collection of beats that has a classic vibe to it but doesn’t sound dated.

Here’s what Kil has to say about it:

“Through the Wire is an instrumental album I’ve been working on for a minute unofficially and finally decided to finish it up and put it out. It’s the perfect marriage between two of my loves, making beats and the HBO television series The Wire. I’ve been addicted to the Wire since it first dropped in 2002 and have been using samples from the show to match the mood of my beats since day one. Over the years I’ve made a rack of beats like this, and decided to put this project together for all the Wire heads out there. If you mess with the Wire and dope beats, this album is right up your alley.

Also I include 6 tracks from 6 mc’s I’m producing for right now at the end to help promote them all because they all have projects coming out this year.”

Peep it out here and let us know what you think.
