Friend of Under Sound and my sometimes collaborator (i.e. this and ummm… this) Hezekiah, is preparing to release his new album Conscious Porn on Soul Spazm.  As you can see from the above flyer, it’s got some amazing contributors including some bona fide heavy weights.  Two of those heavy weights are  another Philly based MC,  Bahamadia and the legendary Talib Kweli, who are featured on the aptly named “Fired Up.”  Simply put, this song goes HARD.

On Conscious Porn Hez is taking a decidedly more raw approach to his signature soulful sound.  One of the best things about Hezekiah as and artists is that he explores the contradictions that exist in so many of us and he continues that exploration with this album.

I’m listening to “Fired Up” as I type this and it’s hard not to stop typing because I feel compelled to listen.  The track has a sense of urgency to it and each MC, even Bahamadia who usually has a voice that blends with the track, commands your attention.  Hezekiah kicks it off with lines like “Got a line about rhymes and a line about crime, so which one do ya’ll want worse?” which illustrates how artists have so many sides to them but we’re not sure what our audience wants sometimes.

This might be the most I’ve written about a single on this site but that’s because this song really caught me from the first time I heard it.  And trust me the entire album is full of songs that are just as compelling.  So give a listen to “Fired Up” and let us know what YOU think.

E Major and Under Sound Music in conjunction with lifestyle blog Better Than Yours release the first single from the forthcoming EP E Major is… Better Than Yours.

As E Major preps to release his second mixtape of the year he enlists North Carolina rapper King Mez and Washington, DC crooner J Hill to assist him with his first single “Where You Came From.”  The songs features a jazzy piano beat produced by E Major himself and with cuts by True School member DJ Face.

“This is one of those summer love type songs but with a twist,” E Major says “It’s an easy listen but it’s not your usual take.  The women that myself and Mez approach in the song aren’t pushovers.  They’re stong minded, strong willed females.”

My dude Greenspan continues to do great things.  He sent over this track featuring another brother that can’t seem to miss right now, Phil Adé.  The joint is called “Keep Up.”  It has a really different feel when it starts out cause it’s very sparse with only some frenetic high hats and a synth line.  When the hook kicks in and some lush strings lay on top along with the remainder of the drums and some sharp claps, it really explodes into a celebratory song where the two emcees are content to put their feet up and enjoy the ride a bit while still striving for more.

It’s a really fun and uptempo track.  DJ’s will want to bump this over the weekend.  So get to downloading right now!

We’ve covered the leaks, we had an exclusive interview and now the album is here.  So given our in depth coverage I won’t say much more.  I’ll just say that I think Sean put together a really solid effort hear and though it’s called a mixtape, “Truth Be Told” is more like a street album (?) because it’s 100% original music.  Each track is produced by Dischoe who gives Sean a soulful sound scape to lay his vocals on.  Continuing the familial vibe, Sean only features me (E Major), Ab Rock, PX’s Jurawd and Sean’s old partner in rhyme Black Classic, as well as some soulful hooks sung by Ben Byrd and Measha.  As usual though, don’t take my word for DOWNLOAD IT HERE.

Get Judah’s Amber Rose Freestyles on Bandcamp.

It’s funny how these things work out sometimes.  I was over on Illvibes blog and I noticed my name on the post about Judah‘s Amber Rose Freestyles album. I went over to the Bandcamp page and there it was.  I sent Judah the freestyle I did a while back and wasn’t sure if mine made it or not.  I’m really happy it did though.  As I’m writing this I’m listening to it and it’s really solid.  Go peep it out!

Today along with DJBooth.net, King Mez and Commissioner Gordon release their album “The Paraplegics.”  We’ve released a couple of leaks on this blog here and everything so far has been dope.  I’ve been listening to this album this morning and I didn ‘t hear a weak track on the whole album.  I’m really feeling it, though really I’m not surprised.  Don’t rake my word for it though.  Go HERE and download the whole album and bump that!

El Conductor is a really dope DJ from Northern Cali who currently lives in San Fransisco.  He found out about my music and Under Sound through doing some gigs in California with Impulse and he reached out and asked if he could put some my tunes on his latest mix for United State which is a REALLY fresh streetwear boutique in Sacramento.  Of course I agreed and he put the freestyle I did over The Clipse’s “Kinda Like a Big Deal” on it.
