This week The Demonstrators hit song, “Paper Runnin’ Booman Remix” was featured on an episode of a show on ABC.com. Navigating the current music environment is tricky and getting a song featured on something as widespread as an ABC series can be really good for gaining more exposure for our label. So when we our friend Hilton Carter was editing for this series and asked if we wanted the song featured there was really no hesitation. This feature will get “Paper Runnin’” and pure Baltimore Club music for that matter, heard by many ears that most likely would not have heard of either previously.

Under Sound Mentioned in City Paper’s Big Music Issue

This is a great story about the new business models being presented by upstart and boutique labels (like Under Sound Music for example). Here’s an excerpt that mentions us. Thanks to the City Paper for their continued support of our movement.

The converse to that, but still very much a boutique, might be the MC E Major’s recently launched Under Sound label (“Kinda Like Something Big,” Music, Feb. 3). It’s released music by other artists, sure, but Under Sound’s three partners also agree that it’s very much a label and brand revolving around E Major. And these days, it is entirely possible to have a label centered on one artist, particularly in something as personality driven as hip-hop.

Part of that is making it something more than a label, as Under Sound has done. The trio emphasizes that Under Sound is also a well-read music blog, a clothing store and, right now, an outlet for art prints. “We discovered early on that, nowadays, you’re not going to make money with a record label selling albums,” E Major (Ian Mattingly to the government) told this writer last winter.

“We definitely don’t want to get into anything where we’re in contract with artists or anything” he added. “We want to work with people we know or like. The way it works now is we’ve bartered for so much stuff, like, ‘Hey, give me a beat, I’ll rap on your song’ kind of thing. It works out really nicely that way.”

E Major and Under Sound Music in conjunction with lifestyle blog Better Than Yours release the first single from the forthcoming EP E Major is… Better Than Yours.

As E Major preps to release his second mixtape of the year he enlists North Carolina rapper King Mez and Washington, DC crooner J Hill to assist him with his first single “Where You Came From.” The songs features a jazzy piano beat produced by E Major himself and with cuts by True School member DJ Face.

“This is one of those summer love type songs but with a twist,” E Major says “It’s an easy listen but it’s not your usual take. The women that myself and Mez approach in the song aren’t pushovers. They’re stong minded, strong willed females.”

Under Sound Music is partnering with Jerome Baker III’s popular lifestyle blog, Better Than Yours to release an EP of songs that give a further look into who E Major is as an MC. The project will be mixed by Jerome Baker III and will available soon on right here and www.betterthanyours.net.

Pale, E Major and Telly

This weekend the guys from the Heroes 4 Hire asked me to perform with Telly at a rave way out in Waldorf. It was pretty interesting considering I’d never been to a rave really. We did a short set that was all songs that I’ve done with the Heroes. So far we have quite a few. Two from my album, Majority Rules and two from their album Sex, Drugs and Chopped Up Soul. Not to mention our upcoming collaboration album that I won’t get into just yet.

Like I said, it was an interesting night. Telly, who has been coming and performing at this rave for countless years, got a championship belt for his dedication to the event. That was pretty cool. All kinds of madness that goes on at raves was going down, including the dude below who was getting busy with a medieval version of glow sticks. It was really cool though overall and the crowd was really appreciative. All in all if asked to do another rave I’d definitely say “yes.”

Those that know me beyond being an MC, know that I love art and I am graphic designer and illustrator. I created this Tree Hugger character for fun when I was sketching not long ago and decided I’d scan him in the computer and give him a polished, graphic look. I was really happy with how he turned out and I figured, “why not share him with the people.” So here is my first art print. It’s a digital print and we’re only doing 20 prints of the first edition. All prints are signed and numbered by Yours Truly, as you can see in the above picture.
